History

Its origin dates back to the American miners at the time of searching for gold, because these dogs denoted an excellent ability to detect this metal. His name is exactly the combination of gold and retrieve.

Golden Retrievers "were developed" in Britain in the mid-nineteenth century, through selective breeding and well prepared by the "father of the breed," Mr. Lord Tweedmouth. He used to form the breed: Tweed - Water Spaniel (now extinct), Newfoundland, Irish Setter and according to some (unproven) Bloodhound. Until 1952, the story "more glamorous" the beginning of the Goldens that was told was that, in 1858, the Scottish Sir Dudley Majoribanks, later known as Lord Tweedmouth, was visiting the English town of Brighton. When he saw one in a circus troupe of Russian sheepdogs performing tricks and performance that enchanted him, he immediately tried to buy a couple. The dogs' trainer would not sell a pair, claiming that this would break the troupe. Thus, Majoribanks bought the lot, all eight dogs, causing them to his property, "Guisachan," in Scotland. Thus the start of the breed.

The public loved the story, but, in 1952, his descendants had produced records from 1835 to 1890, having no mention of the Russian dogs. The Lord Tweedmouth started to develop the Golden in his property, near Inverness, Scotland, close to the famous Loch Ness. He wished to develop a dog that is loyal and loving, yet witty and smart, silent so as not to frighten the quarry, that likes water and with great ability to recover without tearing the prey. Lord Tweedmouth was a great hunting enthusiast in your country in his time, and he found in Golden the union of various qualities of other breeds of dogs. Through systematic crosses, he reached this beautiful breed.

Over the years other strains were developed until he came to the Golden known today.

The first Golden that arrived in Brazil was Patrick, who had the record name Eldorado Gold Leaf, and his was owner Mrs. Yvette Tobia. Since then the race began to enter the country for two kennels in Rio de Janeiro, and today throughout the country. The breed was recognized in 1911.

Considered today as a great companion dog for those who like large-sized dogs, the Golden is thus a fascinating companion.

The Golden Retriever is a cute, very docile. They have a good behavior and are very nice, very sly and also very reliable, your best friend.

Health

As any hunting dog, the Golden is a tough dog and, as every dog, is susceptible to problems such as:

  • Hip dysplasia - detected between 5 and 8 months old, always before 18 months. Dogs with this problem should not be reproduced, avoiding trouble in the future and not endangering the creator's reputation. Dysplasia can be aggravated if the dog is raised in an environment with slippery floor, where the hind legs remain open laterally.
  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy - detected between the 4th and the 8th year of life, can lead to total blindness or partial of the animal. Ophthalmic examinations can be done after the firsts 24 months for prevention.
  • Cataracts and Entropion Eyelid - may appear from the 3rd month of age.
  • Pyoderma - can be by many factors, like metabolic disorders, immune deficiencies, uncontrolled endocrine or allergic processes.
  • Most problems can be avoided with the permanent using of a super premium ration, since the first months of life.
